Went to the closest one to my office after a site meeting , asked how long the wait was. “3-3.5 hours” NOPE

There were probably 10 0+ people in an office designed to hold 40 max. A sea of humanity and crying children.

Said project at site meeting

Checked in online to a DMV office in a more affluent area 20 minutes away, drove there, and waited maybe 5 minutes. So much better.

Finally bought a model to take to work for my desk. Currently my only desk “decorations” are my diploma and AIA Design Award. I’ve always had a love for these oddball front engined Panoz LMP cars.

I always drive out to the DMV office in Byers, which is a small town in Colorado that is a mere 41 miles from my house. I spent a whopping seven minutes there on Monday getting plates for the Cube , and three of those minutes were because someone was using the printer and we just had to wait until they were done. There were no people in line at all. Even when I went there last year and there were about ten people in front of me, it still took less than 40 minutes.

I get that the DMV is a known joke, but a 3 hour wait is just wrong. I’m salaried so missing some time at work isn’t a big deal, but an hourly person would have to take a half day to go do this! That’s unacceptable to expect from working  people.

At least I finally got my Kansas drivers license and an M endorsement. Now to try not to buy a motorcycle right away...

I hea d to the DMV before work. Get there 5-10 minutes before they open at 8, there might be 5 people waiting ahead of me. I’m nearly always out of there with in 20 minutes and get to work on time at 8:30.

3.5 hours would be ok, it’s only the kids crying i’d struggle to tolerate.

bad enough when i’m at the supermarket

My DMV still hasn't sent me my new plate. It's been 3 weeks. I'm impatient.

I get that the DMV is a known joke, but a 3 hour wait is just wrong.

A known joke, because it is a known reality.

Several years ago Maine rolled out a new computer system across all the BMVs. They didn’t really train anyone, and it caused massive slow downs as the employees struggled to learn it. Wait times were epic. What was the solution? They decided to shorten each business day to somehow lower the stress on the employees. So they addressed a throughput problem.... by further lowering throughput.

The one by my detroit office is pretty decent.  They have the online line queue that will text you as you reach the front of the line.  Normally wait for the 5 min text and walk next door.  So convenient.  And I do all the title transfers for my volunteer group, so I’m there quite a bit.  It is sad though some of the less fortunate that walk in and take a number.  There can be a hundred people in line at times.  It’s crazy.  But that queue less system is the shit.

Yeah, they just eliminated hours on  Saturdays here... seems like the worst decision making possible

Our title office is a different place. Never had any issues there.

Yeah, Michigan does it all as a one stop shop. Ohio has separate title and license locations, which ended up being a pain. You’d have to go to two places to get a title swapped and get plates. Now I can just do it all in one stop. But if you’re dealer or something like that, I could see the convenience of a dedicated title place.
